Malte is a member of our antitrust, competition and trade practice.
Malte advises clients on all aspects of European and German competition law, including complex merger control proceedings, cartel investigations and European tech regulation. He inter alia worked on complex Phase II merger control proceedings which were reviewed by the European Commission, the UK CMA, the US DOJ, the Chinese SAMR as well as other authorities worldwide in parallel. Also in cartel cases and other investigations, Malte provides advice on matters involving parallel investigations by authorities across the globe.
In addition, Malte advises clients on foreign direct investment, state aid and other related matters which require political expertise. He has been appointed by the European Economic and Social Committee as an expert on rule of law matters and regularly publishes on various subjects. Malte is part of our ACTech group, driving legal innovation and providing efficient solutions for clients, and our Nordics group, focusing on clients from Scandinavia. At Freshfields, he inter alia initiated an internship programme for displaced law students from Ukraine.
Before joining Freshfields, Malte gained significant experience in this field during his education and while working for international law firms in Germany and abroad. He speaks German, English, French and Danish.
