Hazel Yin

Hazel Yin is a partner of the antitrust team at RuiMin. She specialises in antitrust and competition law and foreign investment matters in China and globally, with a focus on domestic and international merger control, foreign investment review, antitrust investigations and internal compliance.

Hazel has over 15 years of experience representing Chinese and multinational clients in relation to some of the most complex merger control matters and investigations. Hazel has deep expertise advising clients across a variety of industry sectors including beverages, pharmaceutical, automotive, internet, aviation, finance and consumables, hi-tech, manufacturing, chemical, logistics, mining, and consumer electronics.
Hazel has constantly been recognised by Chambers and Who's Who Legal as a leading antitrust lawyer in China. She was named to Global Competition Review's '40 Under 40' list in 2020 and the Asian Legal Business 'Top 15 Female Lawyers' in China in 2019.
Hazel frequently publishes articles on competition matters with world leading legal publications including Competition Policy International and GTDT Merger Control. One of her papers won the Best Antitrust Academic Article in the Asian Antitrust Category of Concurrences 2020 Antitrust Writing Awards.
Before joining RuiMin, Hazel was a partner of leading international firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where she was a co-head of the firm's China competition practice. She was a partner of King & Wood Mallesons in China prior to that.
Hazel speaks fluent English and Mandarin.

Recent work

  • Advising Li & Fung and Temasek on the global merger control and foreign investment review aspects of the US$3.6bn sale of LF Logistics Holdings Limited to A.P. Moller - Maersk.
  • Advising China Railway Construction on the global merger filing and foreign investment review aspects of its acquisition of Aldesa, a leading construction company based in Spain.
  • Advising Solvay on the China merger filing of the €1.6bn sale of its global polyamide business to a company in a transaction that makes a further step in Solvay's transformation into a multi-specialty chemicals company.
  • Advising Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co., Ltd. ('Mindray') on the multi-jurisdictional merger and foreign investment filing analysis in its acquisition of 100 per cent of the issued and outstanding shares of Finland-based Hytest Invest Oy and its subsidiaries via Mindray's indirect subsidiary, Mindray Medical Netherlands B.V.
  • Advising a number of MNCs and market-leading Chinese companies from across the automotive, aviation, pharmaceutical, consumer and TMT sectors on complex antitrust investigations, internal antitrust compliance audit and transformation.

Qualifications

Hazel received her Bachelor of Art and Master of Law degrees from Southwest University of Political Science and Law. She also received an LL.M. degree from Columbia Law School and the Postgraduate Diploma on EU Competition Law from King's College London. She is qualified in China and the State of New York.
