About Me
Alastair heads up our competition practice in Hong Kong. His practice covers advising clients on Hong Kong competition law matters, and merger control and antitrust matters in China and across South East Asia.
Alastair spent the first eight years of his legal career with Freshfields in the London, Brussels and Washington, DC offices. He then moved to the UK’s competition authority, the Office of Fair Trading, first as Director of its Mergers Group and then Director of a dedicated competition enforcement team (2007-2011). Alastair rejoined Freshfields in Hong Kong in 2016 following a stint as a competition partner at another magic circle firm in London.
Alastair’s extensive competition experience both at the regulator and as a private practitioner across three continents gives him a deep understanding of working effectively with regulators and devising successful strategies for clients in the context of transactional and investigatory work.
Alastair is a frequent speaker at international conferences on competition matters, and has authored a number of publications on competition issues. Alastair is ranked in both Chambers and Who’s Who Legal.
